Whethan Shows Off His Sonic Evolution on ‘Life of a Wallflower, Vol. 2’

Whethan opens the door to a new chapter of his career and shows off his artistic growth with the release of his latest album, Life of a Wallflower, Vol. 2.

Chicago-born, Los Angeles-based artist Whethan has been on quite a ride since first breaking onto the scene. From gracing labels like Future Classic, Sable Valley, Big Beat, Ultra, and Helix to performing at some of the scene’s top festivals, his journey has been impressive to witness. Past albums like Fantasy and MIDNIGHT helped define the unique style that Whethan brings to the scene, but for his latest release, he’s turned his attention back to Life of a Wallflower.

The first volume of Life of a Wallflower surfaced in 2018 and packed plenty of dynamic soundscapes with solo tunes and collaborations. Six years later, the second in the series has arrived via Good Luck Have Fun Records to show Whethan’s sonic growth as he explores everything from disco and lounge-fueled tunes to future bass and trap-inspired beats.

Previously released single “STEALTH BOMBER” leads the way on Life of a Wallflower, Vol. 2. The trap beat with an Indian vocal sample is the perfect backing for the sick lyrical flow that Flowdan lays down on this one. While this sets the tone for what’s to come in the rest of the album, there are plenty of twists and turns along the way.

Whethan’s solo tunes on the album, “DO YOU REMEMBER?” and “ENERGY,” offer different sides of the producer’s mind. The former delivers a blend of groovy house vibes and stuttered future bass elements with an airy ambiance, while the latter offers a slow-burning soundscape with a darker atmosphere that thuds forward with each passing second.

The collaborations on Life of a Wallflower, Vol. 2 see Whethan soar to even greater heights. “MONEY ON THE DASH” with Elley Duhé is a gem of an electro-pop tune backed by a Sped Up version for those who want an added dose of energy. Snakehips and AG Club join in for “ROOM IS ON FIRE” to pack their own punch with Whethan with lounge-ready grooves, a throbbing bassline, and lyrics you can’t help but let infect your mind.

If you’re on the hunt for more vibrancy from Whethan then the latter half of the album is for you. “CRAZY4U” with MKLA, “PLACE IN MY MIND” with shy martin, and “sick of myself” with Nessa Barrett all pair powerful vocal performances with dreamy, dance-fueled beats as Whethan layers in sonic elements from future bass, house, and more.
