Rezz explores the depths of her ever-evolving sound with the release of CAN YOU SEE ME?, out now on HypnoVizion.
A bass music visionary and creative mastermind, Rezz has soared to the top thanks to her mind-bending production and experimental spirit. This Canadian superstar is no stranger to diving into the depths of ominous soundscapes, always floating in that mid-tempo sweet spot that could send a shiver down any spine. Her craft has landed her on the mainstages of dance music’s most notorious festivals, selling out innumerable headline shows and releasing multiple award-winning albums. She’s only just scratched the surface of all she is destined to accomplish.
Her third studio album, Spiral, showcased her musical evolution, blending bass-heavy instrumental tracks like “Levitate” with radio-friendly pop vocal counterparts like “Taste Of You.” After the Spiral tour left her feeling tired and uninspired, she grounded back into her Canadian roots. After some desperately needed rest and reflection, her new album CAN YOU SEE ME? was born.
CAN YOU SEE ME? is the continuation of an ever-evolving artist exploring the depths of her creativity one bass-laden banger at a time. Rezz is ditching the vocals and mid-tempo pace to deliver her heaviest, deepest work to date. The ten-part project is also her most collaborative project yet. It features previously released tracks with Subtronics, Blanke, and Holly, as well as new collaborations with rising stars INZO and CYCLOPS and HypnoVizion alumni EDDIE, Digital Ethos, and KAVARI.
The title track sets the tone effortlessly, with an ominous, sinister aura and Rezz’s eery whispers over psychoactive elements. It reflects what the album is meant to embody: a bold statement through artistic expression that says, this is ME; can you see me now?
“Everywhere, Nowhere” featuring Blanke has to be one of my favorites on the album. What starts as a cascading, lush introduction swiftly shifts into the heaviest of voids, a dark, encompassing energy that has Rezz written all over it.
When “Black Ice” was released back in January, I had it on repeat for weeks. There is something about a Subtronics and Rezz collaboration that just hits different. Both artists’ creative spirit resonates through the entirely of the track, with wobbly synths and dark textured layers that feel signature to both respective artists.
“CUT ME OUT” is a seductive little banger, with its punchy, sexy vocal samples and a heart-stopping bassline that is simple yet so irresistible. “The Descendent” sweeps in and wakes up every cell in your body, sounding like it was made by a dubstep demi-god.
While there are a multitude of noteworthy collaborations on this album, nothing is quite as mind-blowing as that of REZZMAU5. Rezz and deadmau5 have a long-standing relationship, with some of Rezz’s earliest work having been released under his label, mau5trap.
“Superliminal,” a deadmau5 classic, was reworked and renamed “Infraliminal” under the moniker REZZMAU5 back in 2023. The album closes out with a special rendition of the legendary collaboration titled “Infraliminal (Isabella’s Version),” going deeper than ever before and sending me into a state of hypnosis.
