Could a Fifth Daft Punk Album be on the Way?

Daft Punk’s Random Access Memories collaborator Quinn says the duo are sitting on an album’s worth of unreleased music.

When Daft Punk parted ways in 2021, they effectively dashed fans’ hopes for a follow-up album to Random Access Memories (RAM). One of their collaborators on the 2013 effort has suggested that one could still be on the way, however.

Quinn, a percussionist who worked alongside the duo on their final album, told alt.news 26.46 as much during an interview. He said that while he had contributed toward the later stages of RAM‘s, Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel De Homem-Christo of Daft Punk were happy enough with his work to enlist him for the early sessions of a project that was meant to follow it.

So where is it? Apparently, your guess is as good as his. Despite having delivered “probably some of the best work I’ve done,” Quinn says that “at the moment, it’s supposedly coming out of the locker, I hear, and they’re going to do something with it, I hope.”

“They were working on ideas, so Thomas had this keyboard and a computer program — I forget what it was — and he was just experimenting, like, hitting things,” he said. “We were literally just trying to get vibes across … whatever he would give me, I would answer, and try to come up with something.”

Quinn said that some of the music fell toward the disco end of the dance music spectrum, and that Daft Punk also brought jazz guitarist Paul Jackson Jr. into recording sessions. He added that they brought in another artist to play wind instruments but didn’t name them directly.

“It sits in limbo,” Quinn said. “I keep checking in, I’m told they’re working on it, it’s coming out of the locker, and I asked Daft Punk permission to talk about it for another article, because they’re very secretive, as you know.”

While the Daft Punk rumor mill tends to run with its fair share of hoaxes, this one seems like it would be hard to fake. Time will tell if the iconic French duo indeed have another album in them — years after they split up, at that.
