Nico de Andrea Leads a Sonic Session of ‘Love Therapy’ on Debut Album

Love Therapy by Nico de Andrea proves itself to be a highly relatable release representing the human condition in response to love and loss.

Almost two decades have passed since French DJ and producer Nico de Andrea stepped onto the scene, and today, his debut album has arrived on Armada Music. The question is, was Love Therapy worth the wait?

First, we must look at his muse: His experience on the relationship rollercoaster. More specifically, the tragic loss of his older brother and heart-breaking separation from his partner and son. This would send anyone into a tailspin, but instead of losing himself to depression, he buried himself inside the studio, allowing the music to work its healing wonders. What emerged was not only a profound package of sound but a changed man, recharged and ready to fight life’s battles with his head held high.

So, to answer the original question, yes, his story alone makes it worth the wait. But does the music live up to the vision? Let’s dive into Love Therapy and find out. One doesn’t have to travel far past each track title to understand the timeline of events. But, while they’re there to set the stage, the gorgeous Afro-house rhythms, sublime melodic-pop vibrations, and soulful vocals keep us glued to the speakers.

Expanding on the latter, it’s easy to catch yourself blushing over EMRIA‘s intoxicating delivery on “Corazon” or feel a deep sense of turmoil when Dorian Craft‘s vocals slice through “Avalon.” Furthermore, when Eli & Fur “Start The Fire” for recovery, the motivating lyrics crush any sense of self-loathing. Sophia Bell brings it full circle with her heartfelt retrospective on “Million Times.”

As the layers are peeled back, Nico de Andrea’s production ingenuity works hand in hand with each message. For example, “Like Water” with Amira Eldine was meant to be playful, and he achieved this with gentle percussion and a bubbly groove. Heated and heavy was the name of the game on “Worst Case Scenario,” featuring Julia Church, and he made the track come to life with striking piano and synth tones.

So, we return to the question — does the music live up to the vision? A resounding yes. What Nico de Andrea has gone through is raw and relatable, and Love Therapy provides a window to witness the journey. Just remember, while music is a wonderful tool, don’t forget to call your therapist.

It’s time for your session of Love Therapy! Grab your copy of the album on your favorite music platform, stream it on Spotify, and then grab your tickets for Nico de Andrea’s North American tour, kicking off on February 3 at House Of Yes in NYC!
