An accident at Exchange LA cut an event headlined by Brennan Heart short.
Update January 24: Exchange LA has released an official statement addressing the collapsed ceiling tile that landed on the dancefloor and upcoming shows that were set to take place this weekend. “Our team is actively investigating the incident to determine its cause and is taking necessary measures to ensure the venue’s safety before reopening,” the statement reads. Because of this work, the shows with Midnight Tyrannosaurus and Time Machine have been rescheduled. Check your email for info on new dates and refunds.
Previously: On Saturday night, Los Angeles hard dance duo TYEGUYS brought the house down at Exchange LA — literally. A tile fell off the ceiling and into the dancefloor during their set opening for Dutch DJ Brennan Heart, forcing the venue to shut the show down early.
Multiple videos of the accident have made their rounds on social media. In one, a square of exposed drywall and beams can be seen in the ceiling overhead near the front of house. In another, pieces of debris a few inches wide sit in a pile on the dancefloor. Nearly all of them show the words “EXIT DANCEFLOOR” in white letters against a red background on the LED panels behind the stage of Exchange LA’s main room as staff members ask patrons to vacate the area.
One video shows a man lying on the ground next to the rubble and then quickly standing up. At least two social media commentators claim to have seen somebody get hit by falling debris, with one saying, “some people did really get hurt the guy in front of us was bleeding.”
EDM Identity has reached out to both individuals, as well as to spokespeople on behalf of Exchange LA. We have yet to hear back at the time of writing.
Exchange LA is housed in the Los Angeles Stock Exchange Building, which opened its doors in 1931. The unit was purchased in 2006 by PAX America, who spent two years renovating it before the club launched in 2010. Promotional juggernaut Insomniac operates the club and hosts events there every weekend.
At the time of writing, Exchange LA has yet to issue a statement about the incident or provide refund details for the event. The next show on the venue’s calendar is a gathering headlined by Midnight Tyrannosaurus on January 26.
