Adam Beyer poses distinct commentary on creative evolution with the AI-inspired EP Robotic Arms, out now on Drumcode!
Techno legend and Drumcode boss Adam Beyer is winding down from his beat-fueled adventures this month at big billings like Tomorrowland, Junction 2, On The Beach UK, and Hï Ibiza. His electric energy nonetheless continues to strike as he’s unveiled a brand new package of tunes.
His latest studio output, Robotic Arms, comes just three months after “Simulator” arrived, and it’s going to take something extra special to distract us from that addicting Green Velvet collaboration. Luckily for us, Beyer is a master of his craft.
Robotic Arms took a whopping six months to create, and the result will leave you grappling with reality. Its clever title nods to the rapidly growing influence of AI, and Adam Beyer incorporates specific lyrics into the title track to express the feelings that arise when stepping into unknown territory. To expand on them, he states, “I’m fascinated by this and curious to see how it develops, as it’s both a threat for artists, while also being an opportunity to utilize this technology when making art.”
The title track opens up with hefty thumps. As with the majority of Drumcode offerings, this one clocks in at a feisty tempo, ensuring that bodies stay tightly engaged. It’s not long until a feminine AI vocal arrives and attempts to explain her existence and evolution. Still, the listener is left with a sense of uncertainty. Will AI soon take over everything and leave humans without their most valued creative outlets? Beyer also incorporates a surprise vocal on the monologue’s back end and moves from the original soft synth notes to something a bit edgier before going full-tilt mechanic. This is the attention to detail that makes the beloved techno artist an unstoppable force.
On the B-side, you’ll find “No Hate.” This track sizzles and slaps with a dominant vocal performance that goes toe to toe with the intensity of its chugging bassline. From beginning to end, this track will inspire the body to talk as dancers strike a pose under the flashing lights. The peak hour experience doesn’t end there, though. “No Hate” comes with a “Trippy Mix,” amplifying the unique energy field and further enhancing the subtly eccentric melodics.
