Super Future explores the sounds of “vibrant freeform bass” and presents his latest release, the five-track Full Spectrum EP, for fans to bask in.
Nick Rowland, better known as Super Future, has positioned himself as a pivotal contributor to pushing bass music forward. His captivating flow and exquisite fine-tuned sound design have captured the attention of listeners and major labels, including WAKAAN and Odyzey Music. His range is noteworthy and consistent, from booty-bouncing mixes like “Ass Throwers Anonymous” with Wreckno to dreamy releases like the Goddess EP. Now he’s released his latest work, the Full Spectrum EP.
Fans got a sneak peek of what Full Spectrum would entail with the “Full Spectrum All-Unreleased Mixtape” that dropped on SoundCloud a few months back. Now, encompassing his wide range of sound, Super Future introduces his newly coined genre, “vibrant freeform bass.” As an artist not locked into one sub-genre but rather fearless of being multifaceted, his sound features influence from downtempo and experimental bass, breaks, trap, and even pop – and the Full Spectrum EP shows it all off.
Full Spectrum begins with the downtempo track “Haunted,” which feels like the segue between a dream state and a breakthrough. This type of track conveys so much emotion and is powerful in that it can be put on repeat and still make listeners feel like they’re listening to it for the first time. Super Future continues to appeal to the senses on “New Smoke,” which presents a grimy, intricate sound design that checks off all the boxes of what is being heard in current bass and trap tracks. This is also the first track where Super Future incorporates his own vocals.
Diving into the second half of the EP, the Y2K-inspired track “Hot UKG Summer” is spicy, timeless, and is sure to keep UK Garage fans on their toes. With a mix of melodic vocals and smooth undertones, “Sublime” is a tasteful, bouncy pop-infused tune. Wrapping up with the final track of the EP, “The Basics,” featuring plenty of traps and breaks. This collaboration with Just John hit the nail on the head when it comes to a track that makes listeners want to get up and dance.
The Full Spectrum EP is a body of work that shows there is no limit to what artists can reach on their creative journeys; that limit is simply a state of mind that an artist can be chosen or not chosen to embody.
