Close your eyes and let Saturna take you on a journey through the euphonious soundscapes from his creative mind with the Departure EP.
There must be something in the water in Canada because the talent and music coming out of there are absolutely jaw-dropping. Including rising producer Saturna, hailing from Victoria and bringing forth with him fresh, buttery vibrations. You almost feel this instant sense of ease when listening to his tracks, like you could float away without a worry in the world. Now, Saturna is back with his debut EP and Sacred Hive release, Departure.
Saturna has such an innate way of taking his listeners on a journey of sight and sound, and that rings even more true in Departure. You can feel and hear the progression he’s made as an artist, and where this next step in his musical odyssey is taking him. Each of the six tracks brings different emotions to listeners – some more calming and others more melancholy – as he drags you into the depths of your mind and explores far beyond that.
For instance, tracks like “Leaving” and “For Miles,” have more subtle energy with sweet melodies and melancholic yet wondrous emotions. “Leaving” does switch it up partway through, as does the opening track “Call to the Unknown,” to surprise listeners with hypnotic, low-end beats you cannot help but get lost in.
Beyond the emotions Saturna stirs up, the title of Departure speaks for itself as it allows listeners’ minds to wander to an array of nature-filled places or on some sort of another transformational journey of their own. “It Wanders” and “Nurture vs Nature” feel like running through a forest at the golden hour before quickly switching to night as the darker parts of the tracks fade in. Saturna seamlessly weaves different emotions and sounds together in an innovative way, it’s truly beautiful.
From the velvety sections of “For Miles” to the caliginous parts of “It Wanders,” as well as the soothing entirety of “Of the Spaces in Between,” Saturna truly outdid himself and continuously kept listeners guessing for what was coming next. Departure is the beginning of a very bright and successful future for this artist and we’re very eager to hear what he creates next.
