Postponed Festivals Can Come Back More Sustainable Than Ever

COVID-19 is giving Earth a chance to heal and it’s time to think about how festivals can be more sustainable when they re-emerge.

While we can’t be certain when festivals will happen again, one thing we do know is that when we get the green light they’re going to be huge. To ensure that festivals are reintroduced with the least possible impact on our planet, Miami’s first sustainable event consulting company, Ascendance Sustainable Events, is giving away an event sustainability guide for free.

The 15-page guide covers opportunities and best practices in six key areas where events can master sustainable change. These include preventing pollution, waste reduction, nature conservation, natural resource management, community engagement, and public health.

Ascendance’s mission is to use events as a platform to inspire social change, transforming the way human behavior impacts our planet.

After 13 years in event marketing and production, company brainchild and founder Vivian Belzaguy grew frustrated with the amount of waste large events generate. Since shifting her energy towards using events as a vehicle for cultural change, Belzaguy has executed sustainability programs for events and with up to 50,000 attendees, including Ultra Music Festival and Rakastella Music Festival.

“Our planet is having the best rest it has ever received from human activity in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic. While that’s no cause for celebration, it is a wake up call for all of us – including event organizers – to think about how we can not only step lightly back onto the planet when this is over, but grow new awareness and action around sustainability. While all events will have the ability to do this when they return, I believe that music events in particular have a super power for creating positive influence.”

– Vivian Belzaguy, Ascendance Sustainable Events Founder

Ascendance’s event sustainability guide is generously being released as a “gift to the planet” on this historic Earth Day anniversary. More importantly, it signifies the company’s desire to make the live event industry a leader in sustainability and social change. We hope to see more thought leaders like Vivian Belzaguy emerge during this downtime to help event organizers re-strategize their events so we can all return more sustainably than before.

Access the free guide via their website to learn why sustainable event practices are more important now than ever before.
