Girl Talk is back with his first North American tour in eight years featuring stops in Chicago, Los Angeles, San Diego, and more.
Gregg Gillis took the world by storm in the mid-2000s with his experimental mashup-based music released under the moniker Girl Talk. The Pittsburgh-based artist’s genre-blending style led to a passionate fanbase and several festival appearances and tours. Now, ten years since the release of his last album, Girl Talk is once again set to go on a massive North American tour.
While Girl Talk is a name that newer fans of dance music might not recognize, Gillis has still been active in the music scene in recent years. Rather than focusing on high energy concerts with his iconic stage presence, he has been working hard in the studio with many well-known collaborators. His production credits include T-Pain, Tory Lanez, Young Nudy, and fellow Pittsburgh native Wiz Khalifa.
His breakout album Night Ripper came out in 2006, followed by Feed The Animals and All Day in 2008 and 2010, respectively. With every album growing increasingly detailed and complex, each Girl Talk release features an incredible selection of music from all kinds of eras and genres. The first track from All Day, “Play Your Part (Pt. 1),” starts off with a flawless mashup of “International Players Anthem” by UGK & Outkast over “Oh, Pretty Woman” by Roy Orbison. It then goes on to sample over twenty different tunes.
2020 marks another exciting year in Girl Talk’s career, as an 18-stop North American Tour has just been announced. Kicking off in Cleveland on April 29, the last club show on the tour will be on May 23 in Boston. And on June 7, he’ll be making his way to New York for a much-anticipated appearance at Governors Ball.
His music has always been perfect for a festival environment, as evidenced by his recent appearance at Bonnaroo in 2019. Both new and old fans alike will be ecstatic to once again see Girl Talk grace the stage on his headlining tour. You won’t want to miss this one!
