Help boost your serotonin levels and beat seasonal depression this winter with the uplifting it’s okay. playlist, featuring Flume, DROELOE, and more!
As we creep into the cold winter months, that familiar feeling of seemingly unexplained emptiness and sadness returns with the ice on our windshields and snow at our doorsteps. Seasonal Depression, also known as Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), is a very real type of depression that is a result of the changes in the seasons. Symptoms can include feelings of depression, low energy, loss of interest, sleeping and eating issues, and much more.
Every year I am impacted by seasonal depression, and if I let it, it can easily seep into other aspects of my life and disrupt my natural balance. With the lack of sunlight and colder days, I’ve witnessed my motivation and interest levels evaporate and my desire to socialize deteriorate. While there are treatments for more serious cases of SAD, I’ve personally found that music is a wonderful solace that embodies a miraculous bundle of positive energy. At times it is my greatest motivator, my escape, my comfort blanket, my purest energizer, and my answer.
I know that plenty of other people within this community have a strong relationship with music, and it’s why the EDM community is such a close-knit family of unique individuals. So I came up with it’s okay., a Spotify playlist comprised of songs that have gotten me through some of my hardest times and will continue to help in my personal struggle with seasonal depression. While this by no means is a cure, it is an easy and comforting remedy that I hope helps at least one other person out there.
Including everything from the whimsical vocals of Billie Eilish to the delicate chimes and chords of RÜFÜS DU SOL, it’s okay. is filled to the brim with 60 songs that hold a special place in my heart. Here lies tales of aching sadness and heartbreak, but also granted wishes, happy moments, and a peaceful state of mind.
I urge you to listen to it’s okay. in chronological order for the best experience.
Beginning with the beautifully somber and eclectic tones of artists like Getter and Tash Sultana, a story of sound begins and builds into notes of exciting blips and bass waves from San Holo, Bassnectar, and CloZee. Finally, lose yourself to some Zeds Dead and Brondo before ending your sonic journey with INZO and ODESZA.
I hope it’s okay. helps you in a time of need – whether you need to cry until your chest hurts, dance in your pajamas, or finally get a good night’s rest, this playlist has everything you need.
