Houghton Festival’s 2026 edition has been overshadowed by the news of a fatality on the event site. Details remain scarce as authorities investigate.
A woman passed away on the final day of this year’s edition of Houghton Festival in Norfolk, UK.
Authorities received a call around 6:10pm on Sunday, August 8, after the woman was found unconscious in her tent. Emergency services performed life-saving measures, but she was pronounced dead at the scene. According to a police spokesperson, her passing is “being treated as unexplained,” but no foul play is suspected at the time of writing.
“We are deeply saddened to confirm that a person has passed away at Houghton 2026,” reads a statement from the festival’s organizers. “Our thoughts are entirely with their family and loved ones at this difficult time.”
The statement continues: “We are grateful to our onsite medical team, event response team and to Norfolk Constabulary, who all responded immediately. We continue to work closely with the relevant authorities to support in any way we can with their investigations.”
Houghton Festival was first organized by fabric cofounder Craig Richards in 2017; it has taken place on the grounds of the historic Houghton Hall throughout its lifetime. The 2026 edition featured performances by underground dance music acts like Ben UFO, Helena Hauff, Objekt, and Richards himself.
This isn’t the first time in recent memory that a death has rocked a dance music gathering on the British Isles. In July, a local DJ was found dead in his tent at the Cork, Ireland event Love Is A Stranger.
