Love Is A Stranger’s festival in Cork, Ireland canceled its third and final day of programming after a popular local DJ was found dead in his tent.
The Cork, Ireland edition of music festival series Love Is A Stranger ended early after a local DJ passed away on site over the weekend.
On Sunday morning, the artist, an unidentified man in his 30s, was found unresponsive in his tent on the premises of Ballyvolane House, where the gathering took place from July 17-19. According to the Irish Examiner, emergency services were alerted to the incident at 11:30am local time. They arrived on site and tried to resuscitate him by performing CPR but pronounced him dead shortly thereafter.
Love Is A Stranger’s organizers called off the festival’s Sunday programming as a result of the incident. “We are absolutely devastated to learn of the death of a festival attendee at Love is a Stranger today,” a spokesperson said.
“Our thoughts are with the individual’s family, friends, and loved ones at this extremely difficult time,” their statement continued. “We are assisting [Irish police force] An Garda Síochána and the emergency services in every way possible, and will not comment further while their inquiries are ongoing.”
The deceased was reportedly “well known and respected in the electronic music scene.” His family has been informed of his passing, according to Cork Beo.
Now in its second year, Love Is A Stranger is a mini-festival series that has also hosted boutique gatherings in Juniper Barn in Ballymote. It’s the offshoot of an event brand called Another Love Story, which has taken place in Killyon Manor since 2014. Performing artists not only include electronic acts like Move D, but also contemporary and alternative live music like Fixity and Colleen “Cosmo” Murphy.
