Rusko said he hopes that his hiatus isn’t a goodbye, but more of a “see ya later, alligator,” after citing mental health struggles as the reason for stepping away from the scene.
After spending decades in the scene, Rusko is hanging up the headphones. The UK dubstep pioneer announced earlier today that he is taking a break from music and shows for an indefinite period after struggling with his mental health.
The beloved DJ and producer took to Instagram earlier today to break the news, stating that he was conflicted about whether or how he wanted to share details publicly. “The truth is, there was no way I could have found the words,” he said. “I had simply been ignoring my brain and body for far too long. I finally hit a serious breakdown point.”
I dedicated all my life and spirit to being an artist, and have been traveling the world for over 20+ years. I am so unbelievably lucky and grateful for every experience and the most amazing fans who have been alongside me. But it became clear I was having a breakdown mentally.. and so [I] needed to dip out of the game for the foreseeable future.

Rusko expressed his gratitude to those who had reached out to him lately and showed him love, while also apologizing to fans who were planning to catch him at upcoming shows. “I want you to know that your support over the years has meant everything to me,” he said. Rusko was set to perform in London tonight before heading back to North America later this year for shows in Hawaii and Canada.
For now, I have to follow my instincts and search for healing and recovery. While I can’t guarantee any kind of return, I hope in my heart [that] one day this is not goodbye, but more “see ya later, alligator.”

Other notable acts, like Rezz, have gone on hiatus in 2026, with the HypnoVizion boss canceling her appearance at Coachella’s second weekend and all remaining shows, citing touring-related stress as the reason.
