Nina J helped kick off the summer months in style by spinning a techno set filled with bouncy energy to get your body moving at AfterTraxx’s Sound Grove event in Elysian Park.
Summer is simply the best time of year in Southern California. The already great weather gets even better, which provides even more opportunities for DJs to step out to embrace everything there is to love about the season with open-air experiences and more. Los Angeles-based artist Nina J recently did just that by taking the stage at AfterTraxx‘s community-focused event series, Sound Grove.
As the owner of Club Circle and a resident for SXTCY and Trinity events, Nina J is a frequent face for those who have found their home in the underground scene in Los Angeles. Her techno style is defined by dark elements that blend with bold rhythms to create raw soundscapes fit for warehouse parties, and in April, she made her debut on AfterTraxx Records with “Take Control.”
“Releasing my first track with AfterTraxx was a really meaningful milestone for me,” said Nina J about joining AfterTraxx. “I’m grateful they believed in my music and gave me that opportunity, and it’s been great getting to work with a team that’s been so supportive throughout the process.”
With her debut release in the books, Nina J was a surefire addition to the latest lineup for Sound Grove at Elysian Park, where she crept out of the late-night hours for a daytime set that boomed with energy. If you want to sweat it out, this mix will do the trick, with a dose of hard techno and bounce, mixed with Latin elements and more for good measure.
Summer has a different energy. Playing outdoors lets me lean into the more uplifting side of my sound while still keeping that bounce and drive I love. There’s something special about hearing techno in the sunshine instead of a dark warehouse.
