Dubstep DJ and producer Austeria shares insight into her debut album and drops off an exclusive mix ahead of her Lost Lands performance.
Enter the mystical realm of Austeria, dubstep’s daughter of darkness. Rising from Maryland, the sonic architect began beckoning fans into the Underworld with her dark, spooky style in 2018. Since her debut, Austeria has released dozens of standout tracks, including the 2025 single “Mirage” and numerous collaborations with Zingara.
Austeria’s sinister soundscapes are influenced by her peers — such as Rezz, Peekaboo, Excision, and PhaseOne — as well as rock bands like Sleep Token, Spiritbox, Evanescence, and Bad Omens. Her interest in horror movies and their scores provides additional inspiration for her shadowy tones of destruction.
When asked how she would describe her sound, the talent stated, “I always find questions like this to be difficult to answer because my sound has a wide spectrum in itself. I typically describe it as dark, but it ranges from spooky, heavy, and weird to ethereal, mystical, and pretty.”
Since the beginning of her project, Austeria has focused on world-building, laying the foundation for the Underworld she explores in her recent singles, “Liminal Realm” and “Threshold.” While her sound may shift, Austeria remains dedicated to conjuring spells that immerse listeners in her world through auditory storytelling.
Writing music is my favorite way to tell stories! I love creating a scene with sounds and atmospheres; it’s why a lot of my music has a cinematic vibe to it. On a more personal level, I find writing music and DJing to be quite therapeutic. It’s how I process a lot of my experiences and emotions; I always say it’s my shadow work. I curate my sets, EPs, and album to provide a similar experience for the listener. I hope they come out of the experience feeling a sense of harmony with themselves.

As spooky season begins, Austeria is gearing up for the perfectly timed release of her debut album. Dropping October 30, Fields of Asphodel marks the next phase for the gifted producer as she puts forth her greatest effort to date. The effort will plunge fans to new depths as Austeria brings a spellbinding, new universe to life.
“We’re finally exploring the Underworld in the album!” she exclaimed. “I pull a lot of inspiration from Greek mythology, particularly Persephone’s story for this piece, but the album is the story of Austeria entering the Underworld and how she becomes the queen.” With her project revolving heavily around the concept of the unconscious, it’s no surprise that Austeria dives into these themes on her album.
‘Fields of Asphodel‘ is an allegory telling a story of introspection and shadow work, asking the listener on a journey to a liminal realm to face and accept all facets of themselves.

Although this was Austeria’s first time piecing together a long play, it wasn’t her first rodeo creating a cohesive body of work. “I approached the album in a similar way to how I’ve approached my EPs in that all of my EPs tell a story,” she said. “The album is a continuation and expansion on the story and was a much longer format, which was both fun and also challenging. The album is written to flow together from start to finish, and I implore everyone to do their first listen that way!”
Along with releasing her debut album, Austeria is checking another milestone off by heading out on her debut headlining tour. Kicking things off on release day at Meow Wolf Denver, Austeria’s album release party will feature performances from HEXXA, Osyris, and Solfire.
Additional stops include Jacksonville, Tampa, Virginia Beach, Seattle, and Salt Lake City, with more to be announced in the coming weeks. Fans headed to a stop on the Fields of Asphodel Tour can expect to experience “the truest form of Austeria to date” as the Underworld comes to life.
As Austeria turns the page on this new chapter of her project, she reflects on her intentions behind creating music and her place within dubstep. “I genuinely believe my sound is different and unique; however, I’m not in this to redefine dubstep or anything like that,” she says. “I just want to share my art with the world and hope it resonates with those it’s meant to.”
