Moby Offers Peaceful Soundscapes On New Album, 'Future Quiet'

The lead tune, “When It’s Cold I’d Like To Die,” featuring Jacob Lusk, is an update of Moby’s original track, which appeared on his 1995 album, Everything Is Wrong. Three decades later, it still resonates with longtime fans, while new fans were drawn to it after it was used in Stranger Things. Lusk’s updated vocals, which replace original vocalist Mimi Goese, still strike an emotional chord, while the strings and soft atmosphere remain the same.

Other tracks, like “This Was Never Meant For Us,” “Mott St 1992,” and “Le Vide,” showcase the pensive piano notes and gorgeous strings that define the album’s instrumental soundscapes. “Precious Mind” with India Carney and “On Air” with serpentwithfeet are marked as Quiet Future versions, stripping back elements and slowing them down to create more serene environments. Additionally, Elise Serenelle’s vocals on “Estrella del Mar” are simply beautiful.

‘Future Quiet’ is, not surprisingly, quiet. To be clear; I love bombast. I love excess and volume. But as the world gets louder and crazier, I find myself needing the refuge of quiet. Writing and recording it was a refuge for me, and I hope that listening to it is a refuge for you.
