Neumonic Drops Hot, Fresh UKG Tracks on the ‘Foghorn Dance EP’

Neumonic draws influence from UK garage, West Coast bass, drum and bass, and dubstep to produce banger after banger on the Foghorn Dance EP.

Santa Cruz selector Nick Neumann aka Neumonic has been blowing up stages from Infrasound and Outlook Festival in to Lightning in a Bottle. Founder of Garage Access, the mad lad has dedicated himself to bringing his UK influences to a growing following of bassheads in the Bay Area and beyond. Previous releases “This One’s Nawty” and “Movin” have been heard out in the wild throughout the summer, and now he’s dropped another onslaught of tunes with the Foghorn Dance EP.

Neumann has previously released tracks on Morii Records and Bad Medic. The Foghorn Dance EP arrives on Nawty Records and cements him as a true dance music staple, introducing a generation of listeners and producers to his UKG roots.

The greatest example of this is “Gangster Groove,” which splices a heavy bassline and reverb with hints of dubstep, DnB, and breaks. This is the track to blast from the subs to a dancefloor thanks to its rhythmic hi-hats and undeniable groove. Neumonic stated that this was one of his “most requested dubs” and has already seen support from the likes of Ternion Sound, Justin Martin, and Bachelors of Science.

Another example, “Bust A Move,” is a groovy tune that combines old school 2-step with classic samples to transport you back in time. Its energy will light up any room.

The final two tracks, “Foghorn Dance” and “Bassline Bizness,” pulsate with an authentic presence. The best representation of Neumonic’s blend of US and UK influences is the synth on “Bassline Bizness,” which carries a wicked reverb and is buoyed by samples that require proper dissection. Meanwhile, the title track serves its purpose to call in the bassheads through the fog and lead them home. By and large, this EP is yet another example of what to expect from the West Coast’s own UKG rising star.

This full EP is some of my favorite productions to date, and I’ve been waiting a long time to put these out properly. Very excited on the full package and think it has something for everyone here, as well as pushing the UKG/American Bass Music connection that I’ve been working on. Some heavy stuff here but truly keeps that funky fun 2-step groove.
