Hoax is Back with New EP on Hospital Records, 'Sick Notes'

**Bristol-based DJ and producer Hoax solidifies his place as a household name in the UK DnB game with his latest Hospital Records EP, Sick Notes.**

Drum and bass selecta Hoax has delivered his latest EP, Sick Notes, and the only prescription is to rave. Landing on Hospital Records, this six-track release is full of dancefloor bangers. Through this project, Hoax shows the world what he’s all about: driving basslines, melodic and powerful vocals, and dubby rollers. He’s frenetic jump-up while knowing when to slow things down, resulting in heaters full of skillful precision.

Sick Notes finds Hoax teaming up with frequent collaborator and MC Purple Velvet Curtains. Their previous work, such as “Sekkle” and “Spark It,” has proven to be musical magic, and their latest collaboration is no different. High-energy lead track, “The Samurai,” sees Hoax utilize rolling basslines and tight mixing to showcase PVC’s lyrical prowess. It’s a clean production, full of straight filth and bumping bass.

The second tune, “Siger Rongob,” follows the same formula. An ode to the Hospitality Weekender, this neuro-funky track is so gritty and dark, but wonderfully bass-heavy.

Hoax then segues into the other side of drum and bass with tracks like “Deep Inside,” “Right Now,” and “Ain’t No Other” that capture his soulful side. Each encompasses a softer, more melodic sound while still delivering a powerful bass punch. This culminates in “Your Eyes,” a liquid DnB track featuring Javeon that delves deeper into the groovier side of the genre. Featuring his ubiquitous, grimy sawtooth synth and percussion, Javeon steps in to add his velvety vocals, smoothing it out.

The blending of the soft and hard is a constant theme throughout the EP, proving that Hoax understands all aspects of drum and bass. After listening, it’s easy to see why Hoax has touted this as his “favorite body of work to date.” Sick Notes reads as a love letter to drum and bass as a whole, and he runs the gamut through the grimy, dirty, hard, melodic, and soft sides of the genre. He’s solidifying his sound and giving the world a taste of where he stands.
