Suman’s Vibez EP unites Berlin label SEVEN with Seoul club Faust residents for a cross-continental remix collaboration.
In recent years, South Korea has emerged as a global hotspot for cutting-edge electronic dance music. The underground techno scene in particular is brimming with raw energy, marked by a new wave of rising talent. Seoul-based DJ producer Suman stands out as a prime example. Renowned for her minimal techno sound and hypnotic grooves, she regularly delivers electrifying sets at the iconic local club Faust and has shared the stage with artists like Dorisburg, Alex Smoke, Bryan Kasenic, and Don Williams.
As a driving force in Seoul’s underground scene, Suman continues to prove that she’s just as talented behind the decks as she is in the studio. In her latest five-track EP, Vibez, she turns to Berlin label SEVEN to draw the connection between cities and culture. Known for its LGBTQ-friendly ethos, SEVEN explores the intersection of house and techno with a fresh and inclusive lens. In this special release, the label has also teamed up with fellow Faust residents Damie and Mars Parck on remix duties, tapping into the creative synergy and diversity of Seoul’s artistic scene.
The first track of the EP, “Do U Bounce,” kicks off with an infectious rhythm that makes you move. Fast, fierce, and full of fire, the song propels forward with a rush of kinetic energy true to its name.
The momentum continues with the title track, “Vibez,” where pure adrenaline surges through the pulsing techno beats to keep your vibes locked in. There’s a palpable sense of urgency here, almost like you’re pulled into a fast-moving current.
Rounding out Suman’s own productions, “I Don’t Know“ shifts into a softer gear, with the playful, shimmering chords ushering in a breezy groove. It’s an invitation to the listeners to get lost in this highly danceable rhythm on a warm summer night.
To further turn up the heat, two innovative female DJs, Damie and Mars Parck, showcase their talents on this EP, each injecting their distinct flavor into the project. Damie’s take on “Do U Bounce” features a unique, tribal-tinged sound that is layered with heavy synth work. She enhanced the song with a fragmented vocal cut that ignited a raw, crackling energy. Meanwhile, Mars Parck offers a smoother, sparkling rendition of “I Don’t Know,” weaving in unexpected twists and dazzling textures to give the track a whimsical feeling.
