The Brooklyn Mirage has found a lighthearted way to remind NYC clubbers of the improvements planned for its imminent relaunch.
Lately, members of the New York City dance music scene have been speculating whether The Brooklyn Mirage will finish its planned renovations before its scheduled grand reopening on May 1. This doesn’t appear to be a concern for the venue staff themselves if a brand-new teaser is any indication.
The fictional video depicts a “Brooklyn Mirage community feedback session” led by local nightlife personality Austin Gebbia, who also oversaw casting for the short piece of content. Globetrotting DJ and producer Danny Tenaglia makes a cameo to shout at the top of his lungs that “the sound could be better,” adding to a chorus of real-life complaints that newly appointed Avant Gardner CEO Josh Wyatt has made it his mission to address.
Importantly, the Instagram post caption accompanying the video plainly states, “See you May 1.”
It’s a move that might allay the fears of locals who saw videos of what looked like little more than a structural frame and wall frame on the built site with less than a week to go before Sara Landry’s Thursday and Friday double header. In an email last week, The Brooklyn Mirage told EDM Identity that “there are no delays in the build schedule because this is a prefabricated, modular project.”
The Brooklyn Mirage, which opened in 2017, is the most well known venue component of Avant Gardner, a complex on 140 Stewart Ave that itself opened two years prior. Complaints about its sound, dancefloor, and especially safety in the wake of a nearby attendee fatality in June 2023 led Wyatt and company to plan this year’s overhaul.
