Enrico Sangiuliano Gives Away His Techno Blueprint on the Discipline EP

One of the final releases of his NINETOZERO imprint, Enrico Sangiuliano’s latest EP includes tracks by Zimms, Secret Cinema, and ABOUT SOFIA.

Enrico Sangiuliano has treated his latest music release as an opportunity to put techno producers on game. The Discipline EP on NINETOZERO consists of three tracks by a handful of artists — not the least of which is his own, “The Techno Code,” which offers something of a masterclass in big room techno arrangement.

The first few bars of “The Techno Code” sound like a run-of-the-mill techno track. Then, a cinematic voiceover welcomes the listener to “a journey through the depths of classic techno.” It goes on to narrate a handful of changes, some as small as a hi-hat coming in and others as big as the peak intensity point of the track.

Also on the EP are two other songs: “We Build And Reset” and “You Know What I Was Thinking.” The former comes courtesy of Dutch producer Zimmz, who fitted it with a synth melody suited for an immersive Afterlife event. The latter sees Secret Cinema and About Sofiya join forces on a groovy, almost minimal-leaning gem with a sultry female vocal.

Hailing from Reggio Emilia, Italy, Enrico Sangiuliano cut his teeth with the Counsciousness EP on Truesoul, a collaboration with Frankyeffe. He went on to release a number of his biggest records on Adam Beyer’s Drumcode, arguably the biggest techno label in the world.

Sangiuliano launched NINETOZERO in 2022 to make a statement on the temporary life cycle of dance tracks. As its name suggests, the imprint started with release #9 and is counting back to #0, with the Discipline EP marking #2.
