Joe Kay opens the doors to a new chapter of his illustrious career with the release of his debut EP, If Not Now, Then When?

Joe Kay has been hard at work guiding the scene forward for over a decade. As the founder of Soulection, he’s curated a plethora of forward-thinking grooves that have pushed the boundaries of the community, rooted in everything from hip-hop and R&B to soul and future bass. Yet one thing has been missing throughout his ongoing legacy: an EP to call his own.

That’s now changed as Joe Kay flexed his creative muscle and channeled his influences while on a trip to Joshua Tree to create his newly-released debut EP, If Not Now, Then When? Out now via Soulection Records, this six-track EP sees him weave elements from R&B and soul in with flourishes of Jamaican dub and Afrobeat-influenced elements for an intoxicating ride that’s intimate yet dancey.

If Not Now, Then When? represents my first-ever music project, a deeply personal and collaborative body of work. Over 14 years of curating and shining a light on others have led me to this moment, where I’ve brought together incredible artists and producers who align with my vision.

Joe Kay

Each track on If Not Now, Then When? sees Joe Kay showcase his range of influences, but he didn’t embark on this journey alone. Joining him along the way are collaborators Karri, Cruza, Isaiah Falls, Dylan Sinclair, Amaria, Blackway, Arin Ray, Merges, and Sinead Harnett, who all add their touch to the tracks.

“Hesitation” is one of the standouts among the rest, as Joe Kay teams up with Karri for a ride that features seductive vocals, guitar strings that pang right in your heart, and a backing beat that gets your feet to move. Others, like “Slow Down” with Cruza and Isaiah Falls and “Frontin & Crushin” with Arin Ray and Blackway, are club-ready gems, while you’ll find yourself vibing out to the loungey sounds on “Moonlight” with Isaiah Falls and Merges.

Listen to If Not Now, Then When? on Spotify or your preferred platform, and follow Joe Kay on social media for the latest updates on Soulection and more.
