Visages’ Debut Album Solidifies the Quartet’s Seat at the Top

Visages have released their debut LP, Amor Fati, featuring an array of talented collaborations and the group’s signature blend of light and dark sonics.

When Toulouse producer quartet Visages appeared in the bass music scene almost a decade ago, it was evident to keen ears that they were destined for greatness. A true example of letting the music speak for itself, the group has never been one to follow trends, gimmicks, or even do much promotion on social media. Instead, they gained their loyal following from their quality production and no-boundaries approach to bass music.

Leave it to Visages to deliver both menacing dubstep and melodic drum and bass on the same release. Their newest offering, Amor Fati, is just that and arrives as their debut album on 1985 Music after years of releases with the imprint. Amor Fati translates to “the love of one’s fate.” This Latin phrase describes the practice of accepting and embracing everything that has happened, is happening, and has yet to happen.

The group took to Instagram this morning to share some words about the album, stating, “We have always loved music and art as a means of expression, a way of sharing emotions with invisible vibrations. This is what we tried to achieve with this album: put our ego aside and let the music speak.”

As with many Visages releases, the liquid drum and bass offerings on Amor Fati arguably steal the spotlight and feature collaborators like Alix Perez, Chimpo, Monty, and Trail.

In true Visages fashion, some of the most perfectly crafted DnB tunes a listener could lay ears on are sprinkled between heavy dubstep and grime tracks. “Rest” featuring 1985 Music head Alix Perez and “I Don’t Want To Go To Heaven” with Monty evoke feelings of instant bliss. These tunes fit perfectly with the arrival of warmer days, and Visages perform their alchemy with flawless melodies that sound timeless.

Any tune with fellow Frenchman and 1985 Music comrade Trail‘s name on it is an instant hit, especially when he’s collaborating with Visages. “Past Lives” lives up to the bar set by their previous releases like “Misty Blue” and “Comet,” with dreamy vocals and an aura of nostalgia. One new collaboration between them is simply not enough, and fans can only dream of a longer project from Trail and Visages together.

“Visions” features UK producer Chimpo, and together they create a moodier, jazzy vibe that feels like eveningtime outside of a European cafe. The male vocals and classic instruments complete the track for an elegant and utterly classic-sounding offering.

It’s not just drum and bass that Visages turn to gold, with plenty of sinister bass and grime offerings on the flipside of Amor Fati.

Two past collaborators instantly stood out on the tracklist: grime vocalists Snowy and Strategy. These two UK rappers always have some of the most lethal bars in the game, and they don’t disappoint on their latest Visages collaborations. “Lewis Capaldi” with Strategy has been doing damage in Visages’ live sets since 2023, and deciphering the clever lyrics is part of the fun. Snowy brings his signature tags and gutteral flair to “Crystal Clear,” which dropped as a single prior to the album release.

Always unafraid to show their experimental side, Visages dives into dystopian sounds on tracks like “Transhumanism Music” and “Stuka Ju 87.” With sounds straight out of a dark sci-fi movie, it’s only fitting that peers like EPROM have been playing them in recent sets.

This beautifully eclectic collection ends on a slowed-down, uplifting note on Visages’ collaboration with Eric Nakanishi, “Kintsugi.” The name translates to “repair with gold,” derived from the ancient Japense art of reinforcing broken pottery with gold filling. Utilizing their signature elegant jazzy flair once more, the track feels like the perfect conclusion to Amor Fati‘s ever-evolving story.

Visage’s debut album, Amor Fati, is out everywhere now. Head to Spotify to hear some of the highest-quality sonics of 2025 so far, and purchase the album in vinyl or digital formats via 1985 Music.
