Box of Cats drops its final release of the year with its Litterbox 17 compilation, highlighting emerging talent in bass and tech house.

More than ever, it’s important for labels to highlight rising, emerging talent, especially in dance music. Box of Cats has long showcased up-and-coming artists in its Litterbox series, and Litterbox 17 is no exception.

The latest installment arrives at the end of a huge year for the label, which has released roughly 25 tracks in 2024 and recently celebrated its 200th label release in November. Curated by the minds of Wongo, Jeff Doubleu, Jak Z, Kyle Watson, and Tom EQ, Litterbox 17 exemplifies fresh production styles and artists pushing the boundaries of bass house and tech house.

The nine-track compilation is packed with energy from start to finish, beginning with Holt and Bass Odyssey‘s track “Shivers.” From the moment the female vocal comes in, listeners are met with a groovy bassline. Danz steps in with “All Night,” a proper tech house stomper that gets the dancefloor moving, while MARDI MAYHEM injects a bit of vocal-driven flair with the catchy bass house cut “High & On The Run.”

Dino Munaco brings the intensity up a notch on “Drip,” a big room bass house selection that will surely get you moving. JBoog introduces “Muhfuka,” a standout track that grabs attention with its glitchy vocal chops and unique synth work. Enrique Gongora follows with “Alright,” offering a dreamy vocal layer and skippy hi-hats before Kapuzen picks the energy back up on “Mystic.” The track, at seven minutes in length, draws the listener into its hypnotic groove and spoken-word vocals that convey pure underground spirit.

Lowez gets delightfully unclean with “DIRRRTY,” a track with skipping beats and rolling bass that conjures images of a late-night warehouse atmosphere. RJW brings Litterbox 17 to a close with “You Better Come Get It,” tying things together with a dance-inducing bass house vibe that feels like the perfect ending.

Box of Cats proves it is a label that knows how to leave its mark, scratching at the door of new frontiers and pouncing on emerging talent like a true feline tastemaker. If you are on the hunt for forward-thinking tracks from hidden talent, Litterbox 17 is the purr-fect release to sink your claws into this season.
