Tape B Shows ‘Em How It’s Done on ‘Distortion Theory’

Melding classic and contemporary dubstep elements, Tape B crafts the perfect blend of electronic nostalgia with his new EP, Distortion Theory.

Florida-based DJ and producer Tape B is bringing back the old-school dubstep style with a twist. His distinctive “Old School x New School” production style creates a nostalgic sound that incorporates old dubstep elements with contemporary bass and hip-hop, and led to a landmark year in 2024. Tape B made waves, appearing at some of the most esteemed music festivals, such as Ultra Music Festival, Coachella, and EDC Las Vegas. Now, with the year coming to a close, he’s dropped off his most anticipated project to date, Distortion Theory.

An ode to his 2021 EP, Distortion Theory showcases Tape B’s musical range as he embraces versatility and displays expertise beyond hard-hitting bass. The flow of the eight-track release was chosen to be reminiscent of his live sets as he moves from energetic energy to vibe-centric tunes throughout the body of work.

This EP is supposed to be the essence of fall season and capture the feeling of nostalgia and what fall feels and sounds like to me, I hope y’all enjoy.

Right out of the gate, Tape B opens up with the electrifying “Backspin Bass” featuring his famous tagline. The bass-booming banger has appeared in his sets as he layers in popular rap vocals from Lil Wayne‘s “A Milli” for a nostalgia-fueled live edit. Displaying the producer’s signature sound design, “Hot One” builds into a filthy, dark dubstep song with deep, trembling basslines.

Tape B also breathed new life into a popular track from his 2022 EP, A Dose of Nostalgia, with “I Won’t Be Your Drug VIP.” Another familiar track on the EP is the lead single, “Nocturnal.” Released last month, the collaboration with VKTM features riddim chops for an innovative take on both artists’ distinct production styles. Tape B rounds out the release with tunes like “Back to the Dust” with PAV4N, “Someone to Hold” with Dani King, and “Never Alone” to make this collection feel complete.
