Fred again.. dropped off his latest album, ten days, which explores the depths of human emotion one powerful ballad at a time.
Fred again.. has made music that captures the complexities of the human condition with a raw authenticity that touches the hearts of all who listen. His Actual Life album series deeply moved the masses. Since then, he has gone on to become one of dance music’s most beloved producers, packing out venues like the LA Memorial Coliseum and headlining massive festivals to collaborating closely with the likes of Skrillex and Four Tet. Now, he’s released his most emotive album yet, ten days.
Deepening the interpersonal landscape of his discography and only further proving why he is such a prominent figure in the dance music space, ten days serves as a musical diary during a time of deep feeling for the artist. In a refreshingly candid post on Instagram, Fred again.. went into detail about the inner workings of the album’s creation.
ten days is a combination of ten songs and ten interludes that melt into one another to create one of the most stunning albums that’s been released in recent memory. The album is brimming with talent from start to finish, with collaborations from Obongjayar, Jozzy, Jim Legxacy, Sampha, SOAK, Anderson .PAAK, CHIKA, Duskus, Four Tet, Skrillex, Joy Anonymous, Emmylou Harris, The Japanese House, and Scott Hardkiss.
The album opens with the previously released single and fan favorite “adore u” featuring heartwarming vocals by Obongjayar over an uplifting chamber of marimbas and bass. Interwoven through the heart throbbing ballads are other upbeat bangers like “places to be” with Anderson .PAAK and what is sure to be another massive hit, in part because of the immense amount of talent collaborating on it, “glow,” featuring Duskus, Four Tet, Joy Anonymous, and Skrillex. The tune is an atmospheric symphony of color and sound that feels like a warm hug.
There were two songs that left me feeling utterly spellbound. The first, “just stand there” featuring SOAK, felt like being dropped into the beginning of an intense love story. The words echoed the sentiment of what it feels like to be deeply admired by someone you adore just as much. It made my heart flutter and my body sway right along with it. The second, “i saw you,” had such a melancholy beauty with Fred again..’s emotive vocals that almost brought me to tears. It feels like two sides of the same story, a beginning and an end.
