Multifaceted global sensation John Summit has finally released his highly anticipated debut album, Comfort In Chaos, out now on Experts Only/Darkroom.

From humble beginnings to prodigious global stardom, the rise of John Summit has been a spectacular phenomenon, with his success rendering him one of the most in-demand artists in the scene. The accountant-turned-dance music sensation has risen to the stars with a deep, creative passion that can be felt through every single he’s released since the dawn of COVID.

His breakthrough track, “Deep End,” which was released during the shackles of a global lockdown, turned out to be just the beginning for the Chicago native. Summit swiftly gained momentum with singles like “Sun Came Up,” a collaboration with Sofi Tukker, and “Human” featuring Echoes, which became a #1 track on US dance radio.

When the world was finally ready to welcome live music back into their lives, John Summit found himself headlining dance music’s most notorious festivals and selling out venues like Madison Square Garden. In just a few years, he became a powerhouse in the house and techno space. Now, he is pushing the boundaries, moving away from his comfort zone into more uncharted territory with his debut full-length album Comfort In Chaos, which is out now on his very own Experts Only record label.

Comfort In Chaos challenges the genre norms in dance music, unapologetically tapping into sounds like UK garage and drum and bass that Summit has always loved. Singles like “EAT THE BASS” and “Go Back,” the latter of which features drum and bass kingpin Sub Focus, shine a light on the diversity of this album, contrasting with singles like “Where You Are” and “Shiver,” both featuring powerhouse vocalist HAYLA.

From start to finish, the 12-part project is a work of art, but a few tracks left me absolutely spellbound. “Stay With Me” featuring Of The Trees is deep and brooding, with that tranquil, ambient bass for which Of The Trees is known. “palm of my hands” featuring venbee is every liquid drum and bass lover’s dream. I felt the comfort seep into my bones with this one — light, airy, and so full of life.

The title track, “Comfort In Chaos,” feels like the opening of heaven’s gates. It’s an ethereal symphony of synths and haunting vocals echoing the track’s titular sentiment gave me goosebumps from start to finish. “Tears” with vocalist Paige Cavell is giving old school trance, with that magic John Summit touch. In his own words, the track “starts off as John Schuster and ends as John Summit.” It serves as the foundation of all that the album is meant to embody.

I’d say it’s the story of my life on the road the past few years. It’s the highs & lows of playing in front of thousands to then being by myself in a hotel room. It’s the duality between being both John Summit on stage & John Schuster all alone at home.

The album in its entirety is full of the old and the new, with nods to his Chicago house roots weaving through those sweeping, euphoric soundscapes. Comfort In Chaos is about the duality of life, the vice and virtue, the good and the bad. It’s all here, it’s all beautiful, and it demands to be felt.

Based in Southern California, Jackie grew up with a profound love for all things dance music. She found a home in the festival scene and realized her dream of pursuing a career in music and event production at just fourteen. Over the years, she has worked in various facets of the industry, including writing for various media outlets, managing social media at Audio San Francisco, organizing local events with Burning Man, and working as artist transportation at festivals like Life Is Beautiful. She fell in love with Anjunadeep during her time at Audio, with progressive and deep house encapsulating her heart. However, her music taste spans far and wide, so you never know which side of the festival grounds you may find her at. When she's not bopping around a festival, you'll likely find her behind the decks as DJ JAKLŸN.
