Renowned House Music Vocalist Kathy Brown To Release Cancer Support Fundraiser Album, 'Legacy'

Legacy is Kathy Brown’s first studio-length album, and it will arrive by way of Defected Records’ disco-inspired Glitterbox imprint.

When Kathy Brown discovered that she had stage four lung cancer in 2023, the decorated house music vocalist decided that she wanted to release a full-length album for the first time in her career. Now, it’s grown into something even bigger. Legacy will release via Glitterbox on July 19, and it will raise money not only for Brown’s treatment, but to those suffering from cancer in the UK.

The proceeds from the album itself will go toward treatment options for Brown, whose daughter revealed her struggle in a GoFundMe launched in October of last year. Meanwhile, all profits generated by the album’s July 18 release party at Defected’s London headquarters will be donated to the UK charity Macmillan Cancer Support.

As for the music itself, Legacy will consist of 19 tracks featuring Kathy Brown from throughout her career. Among them are classics like “Give It Up” by Eminence, Brown’s rendition of “Get Another Love” by Chantal Curtis, “Over You” by Warren Clarke, and “Strings Of Life (Stronger On My Own)” by Soul Central. It will also include remixes of these four songs by Moplen, DJ Spen, Sophie Lloyd, and Michael Gray, respectively.

“When we found out that Kathy had stage four cancer, she told us that she had never had an album out before and that she’d love to have a body of work in one place,” said Defected Records A&R Seamus Haji in a statement. “So, we set about collating some of her strongest releases, including four new exclusive remixes from fans of her work including DJ Spen, Michael Gray, Sophie Lloyd and Moplen. I’m excited about this Glitterbox release for one of the fiercest house divas of our time.”
