Sven Fields swung by to chat about his experience living in Amsterdam and dropped off a mix filled to the brim with his latest tunes.

The Netherlands is home to many artists making waves in the scene, and one of the brightest lately has been Sven Fields. This Dutch artist has teamed up with major artists in the scene, like AFROJACK, while finding a home on labels ranging from Spinnin’ Deep to Wall Recordings. Last year saw Sven Fields enter a new era of his career with the launch of his label, Fields Vision, and dropped “Do My Thing” with Buzz Low and “Do It Like That” to the delight of house music lovers. More recently, he dropped off “ZEZE,” a new single that’s available for free to help usher in the rest of spring.

Looking to the past, Sven Fields was introduced to music by listening to the radio and CDs before digging deeper into the internet on his family’s computer. “I knew I liked music, but who doesn’t? So, that didn’t really stand out,” he said. But his life actually changed when he turned 14 after his parents gifted him a Hercules DJ Controller RMX with Virtual DJ for his birthday. “Looking back, that was definitely a key moment because I started to learn what DJing and mixing were. And now we’re here doing this interview, which is pretty crazy.”

All these years later, Sven Fields is growing his career in Amsterdam, which has a very special scene compared to other places on the planet. “It’s a local scene; it’s a small world,” he said. “Lots of people work together and help each other. That’s what makes it special. It’s like coming home after a long vacay.”

The dance scene in Amsterdam is really diverse, there’s always something happening. We have house parties, festivals, intimate clubs, big clubs like ‘Escape’ and the genres are as diverse as the locations. From Afro House and Jazz to Hip-Hop and Tech House – it’s all happening and evolving all the time. The city’s passion for electronic music is strong, and Amsterdam will continue to be a place of creativity and inspiration for dance music.

Of course, partying is part of the culture in Amsterdam as it’s one of the biggest hubs for electronic music. So we asked Sven Fields where he’d take us out for a night on the town. “We’ll have plenty of options! I always like to start a night out at home with some drinks and music. Then we’ll have dinner at this amazing Thai place called Krua Thai Classic,” he shared. “After dinner, let’s get some cocktails at Leidscheplein, which is located close to the restaurant. And after the cocktails, we’re going straight to Escape Club for some proper house music.”

As for the mix he made for us today, Sven Fields shared, “I’ve played three new IDs, which are set to release soon! It’s a tech-house mix with previous releases and edits, tracks that I regularly play and brand-new Sven Fields music.” Found inside are a flurry of his new tracks, along with selections from Nausica, Late Replies, and Riordan.
