Vintage Culture, MAGNUS – Nothing Ever Changes
It’s happening! Vintage Culture’s debut album is almost complete, and he’s been gracious enough to share some highlights along the way, including “Come Come” and “Weak.” The third track to arrive is “Nothing Ever Changes,” and it’s a heavy one!
MAGNUS’ vocals set a somber tone before listeners are swept into a gloomy yet glistening melodic atmosphere. Directed by Elliott Gonzo, the music video adds another emotional layer. Metallic fluid is the focal point — sentient, shape-shifting, and sweeping through the streets with a strong sense of sadness surrounding it.
But leave your sadness behind, because Promised Land officially arrives on May 24 and you can pre-save your copy right now!
Nicky Romero, Sick Individuals – In My Head
Now that you’ve gotten wrapped up in the feels, Protocol Recordings pioneer Nicky Romero reunites with the Dutch duo Sick Individuals, and together they suck us further into the subconscious. “In My Head” features two distinct vocals — one AI-generated, the other human — complete with a hypnotic bassline under stimulating synth and acid stabs.
“In My Head” proved its power when it made attendees forget they were dancing in the rain at Ultra Music Festival. Will it have the same effect on you? Smash play to find out, and then go catch Nicky Romero on April 12 at New City Gas in Montreal, Canada, or Echostage in Washington, D.C. on April 13!
Black Coffee – Ode to Ancestors ft. Djimon Hounsou
Back in January, Grammy-winning Afro house icon Black Coffee suffered a severe accident on a flight to Mar del Plata, Argentina. After recovering for a couple of months, he returned to the event scene in full force and this release reflects his revitalized spirit.
His comeback track is called “Ode to Ancestors” and it settled in on Netflix’s Rebel Moon: Songs Of The Rebellion, an “inspired by” EP for Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver.
Within its borders, listeners are met with enlivening percussion, delightfully unusual high end details, pleasant piano accents, and the rich vocal stylings of Djimon Hounsou. If you’re feeling down, just throw this on and feel the weight of the world release.
Sonickraft – Another Realm
Now that you’re flying high, it’s time to enter a different dimension with Sonickraft. When reflecting on “Another Realm,” the guys stated that it was “created to step away from the tech house sound we had previously been making.” They went on to say, “We wanted to put out a statement early on that we’re here to stay, and with the Codex family we’ve joined up with the right team, perfect for our new direction.”
Does the track live up to the vision? It most certainly does, featuring vocals with unexpected distortion that cause your hair to stand on end. The drawn-out synth waves and punchy bassline bolster the intrigue. While we wait for them to return to Codex, we’ll just keep smashing repeat.
Luca Marchese – Limitless
Like Sonickraft, Luca Marchese also made a major label debut last week, joining the Filth on Acid family with the Limitless EP. Label boss Reinier Zonneveld was eager to put the package to the test, rinsing it on the road and garnering a spectacular reaction.
Limitless comes complete with two peak-time tracks that couldn’t be more different from one another. “Devil’s Dance” sucks victims into the underworld while “Limitless” encourages the imagination to run wild. So close your eyes and let the blazing beat pave fresh pathways in the brain.
