Rinzen’s ‘Bend to the Light’ Looks to the Cosmos

Rinzen’s debut album presents the possibilities of intergalactic colonization while predicting the triumphs and turmoil of a new society.

After teasing Earthlings with a handful of singles, Rinzen‘s debut album Bend to the Light has officially docked on Lane 8‘s This Never Happened. If you’re ready, it’s time to strap on your spacesuit, step inside, and prepare for launch!

Bend to the Light is cinematic in design and features a sci-fi theme that encourages its listener to embrace their unique interpretation. Based on the context Rinzen provided—involving the universe, government control, and idealistic decision-making—he’s warning us about cosmic colonization while keeping us grounded.

The journey begins with “Burnin‘” featuring Shallou. I believe the lyrics on this gentle offering speak about the loneliness that separation brings, as family, friends, and lovers are off building a new place in space. “The Pursuit” is in response to the longing, and off we search for them in the solar system, motivated by peppy percussion.

The eccentric aura of “Astronauta” and “Déjà Vu” featuring Molly Moonwater paint a picture of the trek—vast, mysterious, awe-inspiring, and terrifying—before touching down on Mars. Why assume this destination? Later, Rinzen titled a track “Scorpio,” which is the second ruler of the planet in astrology.

This is where the story shifts. “Terraforming,” “Empires,” and “Planets Passing Overhead” mark the passage of time after one lone visitor multiplied to millions. Between the three, you’ll encounter a daunting and dreary sound spread, signifying the problems that our race cultivates. Yet Rinzen reminds us to rise above and bend to the light as conflict occurs on the title track, as WENNINK‘s voice soothes the suffering.

Closing with an upbeat tone, “I Wanna Be Right” reminds listeners to consider human nature when conquering the cosmos. We may think our actions are justified, but maybe we should stick around and fix what we have here on Earth.
