French foursome Visages exhibits musical excellence with their latest four-track offering on 1985 Music, Dol Guldur.
Hailing from France and reaching listeners across the globe, Visages has paved a sonic path within the bass music world that is uniquely their own. The group of four remains in a lane virtually untouched by musicians outside of their home imprint of 1985 Music with sounds that could easily be declared as an epitome of brilliance within the electronic realm. This declaration is only further solidified by their live performances, and while the US has only been able to catch one member of the group so far, the talent at hand from the entire quartet is very clearly bursting at the seams.
Visages’ latest project on 1985 Music, Dol Guldur, has been long-teased by both the group and the imprint in live sets and on social media. The four-track EP offers hit collaborations with their long-time collaborator Monty and some of the best UK grime vocalists in the game, Snowy and Killa P.
Celebrated not only for their unmatched dubstep contributions but for the duality of their drum and bass production, Visages offers the two opposing extremes of their DNB style on Dol Guldur. The title track and opener is a certified finger-gun beat infectious on the dancefloor while “Panacea” is the dreamy drum and bass delight everyone craves when the warmer weather hits.
It wouldn’t be a Visages project without the dubstep and grime aspect, and “Evidently” with Snowy has continued to receive the rightful recognition it deserves from bass fans. Truly setting the bar higher than ever for 140 releases, not a single listener could forget this formidable beat thanks to both parties’ sonic expertise. There’s no doubt Snowy gained even more supporters from the new hit as his signature shouts became more widely recognized by fans across the pond.
Visages are no strangers to collaborating with like-minded producer Monty, so much so that the whole group is starting to become recognized as an unbeatable collaborative entity- physically unable to create a bad tune. “The Most” brings in the hot vocals of Killa P for a total of six musicians coming together on this track. Another fast dubstep favorite, fans could argue that when Monty steps in, he quickly becomes the honorary fifth member of the group.
Don Guldur is out everywhere now, so do yourself a favor and go to Spotify or your preferred platform to listen to the madness.
