As a household name within the dubstep community, The Widdler has wowed once again with his latest five-track EP, Running Red.
Known for blending innovation with tradition, The Widdler has crafted a recognizable signature sound and a reputation for throwing down some of the best sets in the game. As a long-time luminary in the dubstep community in the US and beyond, his name has become synonymous with bass-driven beats and unforgettable live performances.
As he prepares to embark on his spring US tour alongside Distinct Motive and a busy upcoming festival season, The Widdler has treated fans to a brand-new five-track project. Running Red was released this week via Sentry Records and features five fresh, all-original tracks by the dubstep maestro. The title track was released as a single earlier this month, a classic Widdler 140 tune that sets the sonic scene and tempo for the rest in store on the project with his signature wobbles.
The namesake of the second track, “Zero Days,” refers to vulnerabilities within a software system to hacker attacks. The intensity heightens as the track’s lurking aura introduces a more sinister, experimental sound to lure in the listener. “Hakkaido” follows suit with more avant-garde sonics, this time heavily reminiscent of an Oriental war story as the low-end tempo trudges behind the high flute-like synths.
Running Red concludes with a bang as it’s evident The Widdler saved the heaviest hitters for last with the final two tracks. “South Street” and “Barracks” are two instant dubstep hits that beg to be played on a dancefloor across a hefty sound system ASAP.
Running Red is out everywhere now, so be sure to run to Spotify or Bandcamp with your best speakers to get a taste of The Widdler’s crimson-tinted tale.
