Mahmut Orhan reflects on Earth’s geographic history while celebrating culture and unifying the masses with his debut album, Pangea!
Mahmut Orhan is about to take the stage for his Ultra Music Festival debut this weekend. But that’s not the only first he’s celebrating. His debut album, Pangea, has officially arrived, and the music within its borders will fill you with FOMO if you don’t already have your ticket for the famed Miami gathering!
Leading up to the production, Mahmut Orhan found himself captured by the knowledge that what was once one giant land mass now rests in pieces strewn about this spinning rock in the cosmos. On most, you’ll find humans who share unique cultures and traditions, music being a commonality almost across the board.
While it is a unifying human art form, music comes in many flavors, and our Turkish producer took this concept and ran with it. Ultimately, he unearthed a group of talented individuals worldwide to be showcased: artists like TUANA from Turkey, Switzerland-based Feri, Lebanese singer Ribale Wehbe, Paul Brenning from Berlin, and Tenessee-born London-based Nathan Nicholson of The Boxer Rebellion fame.
Ten tracks deep, Pangea speaks to the melodic house and techno fan, but each distinct vocal styling throws genre to the wind. What matters most is the emotion the music draws out. Tracks like “Redemption,” “Bayati Shiraz,” with Kenan Bayramli, and “Kettle’s Up” with Botan reflect the breathtaking highs and lows.
Weaved within, you’ll find loads of Middle Eastern flair, a nod to Mahmut’s existence. From robust and romantic instrumentals to extraordinary vocals that melt even the iciest of hearts, the listener will leave with an ache to dig deeper into his culture. So, what are you waiting for?!
