REAPER Explores His Range on ‘CHALLENGER’

REAPER’s second album, CHALLENGER, on Bassrush Records, highlights a range of vocalists and delivers plenty of drum and bass heat.

REAPER has quickly carved out a reputation as one of the driving forces behind the new wave of drum and bass sweeping the US. First gaining attention just before the pandemic with bootleg remixes and his debut EP RAPTURE, he continued to showcase his bass-heavy and often vocal-driven take on drum and bass. Since then, he’s dropped his debut album, DISRUPTOR, and taken the stage at festivals like EDC Las Vegas, Rampage Open Air, and Ember Shores, as well as touring worldwide.

Tracks like “IMY” with Bella Renee and “Death Rattle” with Blanke have helped define REAPER’s soundscapes, while his high-energy live sets or guest mix series, The Pulse, has undeniably had a major influence in pushing the genre to the masses. Now, after a brief recovery from surgery, he’s back with his next major release, his debut album CHALLENGER, on Bassrush Records.

REAPER explores a range of emotions with vocal collaborators across the tracks on CHALLENGER. The album features seven tracks, kicking off with “BALANCE,” which quickly energizes listeners with perfectly blended kick drums, sultry vocals, and a perfect fadeout segway into the previously released “CALL MY NAME,” which still charts as one of his top tracks.

The album continues with “COLD CASE,” a fiery new track featuring the talented Bella Renee exploring the haunting emotion of jealousy through her lyrics. Then REAPER teams up with Josh Rubin for the more introspective “MONSTER” for a slow buildup filled with vocals leading to an explosion of drum and bass.

REAPER then looks to Calivania for “BLACK FIRES,” a vibrant track with beautiful, emotive lyrics that will ignite a flame in the depths of your heart. “BREATHLESS” follows soon after with Bertie Scott‘s captivating vocals and a hard-hitting bass that will have listeners vigorously bopping along. CHALLENGER rounds out with “CROSSING LINES,” switching up the energy with AMAGII‘s intense, rage-filled vocals and powerful drum and bass kicks to bring out our inner fury.

While REAPER has made a name for himself as a die-hard drum and bass advocate, he continues to explore his capabilities, continuously expanding his sound and collaborating with amazing vocalists to elevate his tracks. CHALLENGER is a solid example, featuring five incredible vocalists and his flawless sound design. We look forward to seeing what he brings to the table next, but in the meantime, listeners can have the album on repeat via Spotify or their preferred platform.
