Andrew Bayer teams up with Ophelia label head Seven Lions on “Places I Belong,” the lead single off his forthcoming EP.
Andrew Bayer and Seven Lions have both gained devoted followings with their sweeping, emotive tracks that move audiences worldwide. Both artists have roots in Anjunabeats and remain a dominant presence on the label. In 2018, Seven Lions branched off to form his label Ophelia Records. Here, releases would lean toward dubstep, psytrance, and melodic bass.
Today, they have teamed up on a brand new single, “Places I Belong,” with Fiora, out today on Ophelia Records. This is the second collaboration for the two, following “Returning to You” with Alison May, and sees them craft another vocally-driven, uplifting trance track. It also doubles as the first look at Bayer’s debut EP on Ophelia, which is due out on the imprint in February.
“Places I Belong” opens with a somber piano melody and Fiora’s vocals. Orchestral strings sweep in before giving way to a bouncing synth line that is nostalgic and combines nuances of ’80s synthwave and ’90s/’00s trance. The topline synth melody furthers this nostalgia, all culminating in a euphoric drop. The breakdown presents a syncopated grounding with vocal chops and a percussive bassline. We’re on the ground for just a moment before the second drop brings listeners right back up.
Andrew Bayer is setting off on the Places I Belong Tour to celebrate the single and EP. He will make stops throughout the US and Canada, showcasing his new material and, of course, beloved classics.
