EMUH Drops Off a Groovy Release to Close Out 2023

Seattle-based artist EMUH is leaving a lasting impression before the end of the year with the release of the Dial Tones EP.

There’s clearly something in the water in Seattle because the artists from that city are making some of the best house music in the scene right now. One of those producers who has been honing his craft for over two decades is EMUH. Bucking many trends in the scene, he’s stayed true to himself as he continues to champion dance music culture, and the results have been sublime with releases on labels including Space Yacht, My Techno Weighs A Ton, Prime Society, Admit One, Artichokes Are Yellow, and more.

While this year was fairly quiet on the release front for EMUH, he had one last gift for everyone before the ball drops on New Year’s Eve – a fresh EP on Feral One Records filled to the brim with indie dance soundscapes and jackin grooves called Dial Tones.

The title track kicks this one off whimsically, as you find yourself placed in the center of a party with conversations happening all around. But the narrator of this story isn’t focused on that; instead, he’s intently staring at his phone, waiting for a call. It’s a perfect snapshot of life for many who find themselves distracted or perhaps too tied to technology and end up missing out on moments because of it.

“The End Of The World” continues that theme as EMUH explores technological escapism and how someone might still be scrolling away on social media even if the world is ending around them. From the guitar chords, shuffling beat, and vocals, this one is a real gem that will have you bopping your head right along with it. Then, things get even more funky with “Frog Kiss” as pitched vocals, percussion, and, of course, some frog ribbit sounds are layered in to make for a fun-loving soundscape. And EMUH saves his strongest for last with “G Bounce,” a perfect peak-time tech house track that wraps around your mind as it builds with intensity.
