Ivy Lab Shows Off Genre-Fluidity on ‘Demon Dust’

Ivy Lab slings out more delectable sounds before the end of the year with some help from Nikki Nair on Demon Dust.

It’s been a successful year for the London-based duo Ivy Lab. As always, they continually pushed boundaries with their music and left their mark at every stop they had. The pair dropped several fresh new sounds, including “Profit” and “Ghost” as well as taking venues by storm on tour with their unique Infinite Falling Ground A/V set.

The sounds of Ivy Lab reached the masses with an insanely impressive slew of shows and festivals across the globe. Some stops included Lost Lands, Red Rocks, and Apocalypse Zombieland, to name a few. While the year is nearing an end, the duo is giving their fans one last EP that’s landed on Future Classic, Demon Dust. Press play to see just how genre-fluid these two can truly be.

The first song off Demon Dust that saw the light of day as a single was “Backshifting,” which confirmed that new boundaries can always be found with Ivy Lab in charge. This tune has several layers, including stuttering breaks and soulful vocals, all of which will leave you swaying. “Fool” enters lightly but transitions into a darker space as each second passes. The constant rhythm of the drums tethers you to each static-filled club-ready beat present.

The title track sounds like it’s being played on vinyl, as you can hear a light crackle and pop. More breaks are sprinkled throughout this light-hearted melody, with the accompaniment of high-pitched vocal samples blanketing over the bassline. Then, to close out this ride, Nikki Nair provides his remix of “Backshifting.” He does an amazing of keeping the bones of the OG track alive while adding a more bouncy house vibe that elevates the song to a whole new vibe level and makes it perfect for the club.
