In Factory 93’s latest MODULE EP series, the label highlights four rising stars who are changing the underground sound.
Over the past seven years, Factory 93 has quickly established itself as one of the top event producers in the techno world. Hosting star-studded acts like Carl Cox, Eli Brown, and Charlotte De Witte, event organizers have pushed the underground culture to mainstream audiences while maintaining the ethos of the Los Angeles warehouse scene.
Aside from its events, the Insomniac vertical has also served as a record label home for music by rising talents, including Declan James, Madeaux & Zeplin, and Anakim. Now, Factory 93 is showcasing a new roster of talented international producers in its latest MODULE series in MODULE 4.
The project’s four tracks showcase different shades of the techno genre, transporting listeners to dark nightclubs, secret raves, and bohemian festivals. Leading the EP is Turkey-based producer Fred Lenix, whose track, “Plastic Heart,” takes a calming approach to the often dark genre. Its slow build and eerie synths are enveloped by ominous soundscapes, creating a cinematic anthem that keeps you on the edge of your seat until you’re finally hit by a fiery bass kick.
Keeping in the more traditional style of the underground sound, Germany’s Anna Reusch produces an energetic number in “Shout.” It features punchy kicks, swirling synths, and a rush of acid that will enchant every techno lover to the dance floor.
An outlier of the group, Canada’s D-Unity delivers a sunny track titled “Expression.” Here, the producer pushes the limits of the genre by mixing techno textures with groovy percussion, demonstrating that techno is capable of showing a funky side.
Ending the project is the US duo Dunes of Dawn with the number “Instinct.” This technical masterpiece is jammed with syncopated snares, ambient devices, and a growling low-end that makes for a stimulating listen.
