Mija Puts the Final Touch on Her ‘NO RULES’ EP

Mija’s been unveiling NO RULES through a string of singles. “I Wanna Be A Big Star” with Cakes Da Killa and Wreckno completes the project!

As an independent artist, Mija lives by her own rules — and by that, we mean no rules. Her commitment to herself has allowed her in-studio creativity to explode, gifting her faithful fans with offerings that run the gamut of indie rock, glitch, drum and bass, and a plethora of house flavors. This summer, she focused on the latter as she pieced together her latest EP, a package funded by selling digital web3 collectibles and raising Ethereum.

NO RULES first emerged back in July with the title track featuring bloody white. It was destined to do some serious damage on the dance floor with its grungy instrumental elements, catchy lyrics, and eruptive hip-hop outro.

A month later, “Nobody Does Drugs Like U Do” featuring DEEGAN came into existence, filling the club with airy synth stabs and a body-pleasing vocal performance. “A Woman Comes Into The Room” was the final track ahead of the full release. It featured a socially impactful sample extracted from a poem for which Mija searched tirelessly, and its AI rebirth had us all hooked.

Today, “I Wanna Be A Big Star” brings the project to a close, and Mija brings a crew loaded with star power to the table. She’s joined by hip-hop artist Cakes Da Killa and queer rapper-producer-DJ Wreckno to bring a bucket load of razzle dazzle. This isn’t just any late-night banger. No, this modernized throwback track has some serious inspiration behind it. The 1990 docufilm Paris Is Burning takes viewers into the world of the NYC ballroom scene, and the trio of music makers turned to its ethos of freedom, self-expression, and the celebration of life for maximum impact.

If you’re digging this EP as much as we are and you want to catch the visionary in action, you’re in luck. Mija revs up her No Rules Tour tonight when she takes over the decks at Superior Ingredients in Brooklyn before heading to Detroit tomorrow to send Leland City Club into a frenzy. She’ll be staying on the road through the beginning of December, so head over to the Mija website for the full list of dates and tickets!
