After catching a virus, David Guetta has cancelled the remainder of his Ibiza 2023 season gigs.
A significant ailment has befallen one of EDM’s most ubiquitous superstars. David Guetta has contracted a virus, forcing the Future Rave figurehead to miss a performance at Ushuaïa Ibiza and call off the rest of his Ibiza 2023 season gigs.
“After an incredible season in Ibiza … the remainder of David Guetta’s Ibiza season will be shortened,” reads a press release. “Due to medical advice from his doctor, David Guetta has been told to rest for at least the next two weeks after he caught a virus last week.”
“I have had an amazing summer playing in Ibiza and around the world, and am so sorry that I have no choice but to close my residencies early,” said Guetta, according to the press release. “However, we are already working on incredible plans for the 2024 Ibiza season at Ushuaïa and Hï Ibiza!”
David Guetta, who was born and raised in Paris in 1967, appeared on most music fans’ radar for late 2000s hip-hop and R&B crossover tracks like “Sexy Bitch“ with Akon and “I Gotta Feeling” with the Black Eyed Peas. His career extends back much further, however. Guetta heard a house track by Farley “Jackmaster” Funk on the radio in 1987 and began hosting his own club nights the following year. Then, in 1990, he delivered his debut music recording, “Nation Rap,” a hip-house recording with emcee Sidney Duteil.
Guetta’s first hit single was arguably 2001’s electro-tinged “Just a Little More Love,” and the years that followed saw him release several more records that achieved modest commercial success. By the end of the decade, his sound signature’s mass appeal had made him a household name — not only in the burgeoning EDM scene, but among the general public. He is currently the #4 most streamed artist on Spotify and has taken home two GRAMMY Awards.
Never shy to reinvent himself, David Guetta has flexed his creative range through a handful of side projects over the years. Jack Back is his go-to alias for club-ready tech house productions, and he’s collabrated with rising producer MORTEN on a series of melodic techno and classic trance-inspired tracks like this year’s “Lost In The Rhythm.”
EDM Identity wishes David Guetta a speedy recovery.
