LYNY Opens Doors to a New Experience on Latest EP

LYNY creates new soundscapes and steps into uncharted electronic territory in his new EP, The Familiar, out now on Memory Palace.

Chicago-based artist LYNY has turned the electronic music scene upside down with head-turning tracks like “Noxious” and “Zombie” that deliver fresh wonky soundscapes. Recently gracing the stages of Sonic Bloom, Wobble Rocks, and Dirtybird CampINN, he brings energy to crowds nationwide. Although known for his bass-heavy hip-hop-influenced style, LYNY has announced his new project on his forthcoming EP The Familiar – released on Of The Trees‘ label Memory Palace.

This collection of tunes dives into a whole new side of LYNY, taking on ideas of a more chill, minimal style inspired by halftime sounds and mystical soundscapes. It’s a three-track journey with a mission to soothe the heart and soul. The beginning of The Familiar introduces the project theme with “Cat Tale,” which tells the story of remembering a loved family kitten – a song most of us can relate to when reminiscing on a loved one. The tale of loss and unconditional love that lingers on is heard through the haunting chord progressions leading into the deep house-styled groove that fills the heart with a sensation of a feeling turned into a song.

Following is “Attach,” taking a more melancholy approach to the album’s theme. There is a bittersweetness to the taste of the track, with a switch-up from the first track. There is a groovy R&B element to the tune, holding the energy in a sphere and releasing it once the main drop hits with the heart-tugging synths that hold the listener captive in a wall of sound.

The Familiar is a three-track story based on a few important occurrences that shaped and still shape my current life. It essentially serves as a reminder of what I’ve learned from growing up: specifically navigating a new career, moving out, relationships, and mortality.

Completing the EP is the full-circle tune “Home.” It starts with simple chords before blossoming into a complete composition of beautiful synths and hi-hats that dive into a mood-boosting breakdown to remind the listeners that home is where the heart is. The stylistic choices of keeping a simple progression and dancing around the theme with lots of echoing, panning samples and rhythmic switch-ups make the tune smooth yet complex – especially in the second half.

These past few years are just the beginning for this producer, but his notion of virality proves his worth in that he is already making revolutionary steps in the industry by not only creating earth-shaking tracks but tapping into more chill, emotional elements of sound as well. The Familiar takes on a whole new level of LYNY’s artistic, defining a narrative that was not yet met with his brand as a musician.

Whether you’re trying to get down to some disrespectfully good bass or tap into the deeper areas of your mind on a soulful track, LYNY has the potential to guide that journey. Dive into the sounds of The Familiar on Spotify or your preferred platform, and don’t miss his next set near you to hear this experience live.
