JAWNS Goes Into Hyperdrive for mau5trap Debut

JAWNS takes his sound design in a different direction as he brings two electrifying tracks to mau5trap for his label debut.

Among a group of producers that are reimagining electronic trap music as we know it, JAWNS is one who might seem like he came out of nowhere to steal the show. The reality is, however, that JAWNS is no new player in the game — he’s a gem who’s been right under our noses this whole time. He has truly come into his own since departing from his notable collaborative project, Gent & JAWNS. The Richmond, Virginia talent is taking his sound in a different direction and exceeding all expectations we might have previously had.

JAWNS made his solo release debut with the EP House of God on RL Grime‘s Sable Valley imprint in 2019 and has continued to amass support throughout the scene since. Now that he’s a Sable Valley regular with tracks like “FOAMER” and “Massive,” it was only a matter of time before more labels were itching to get their hands on the visionary’s releases. That time has come, as JAWNS makes his mau5trap debut with not one but two tracks.

Unabashed about his capabilities beyond trap music, JAWNS takes things in a different direction for his first release on mau5trap with “Club Perdition” and “Starfire.” In his own words, the tracks are inspired by “the raw, authentic energy of the underground European club and techno scene.”

The first track, “Starfire,” is all about energy, as the vocals will remind you, layered over a sneaky buildup and eruption of hard wave and retro-sounding synths melded together for a mind-blowing drop. “Club Perdition” follows a different approach, taking listeners on a futuristic cyber chase by using techno kicks to create the feeling of an electrical fire coursing through your veins.

Like many other great things in life, these tracks, unfortunately, do come to an end. JAWNS is not going anywhere, though, so fans can rest assured we’ll be seeing more releases from him in the near future. He is also set to embark on the PLAY LIVE tour with RL Grime starting this week, so a select few might be lucky enough to hear these tracks live as soon as this weekend!

Grab your tickets to see JAWNS on the PLAY LIVE tour and hit replay on “Starfire” and “Club Perdition” on your preferred platform.

Janice Roque

A music lover for as long as she can remember, Janice was first introduced to electronic music in her early teens, then experienced live events in 2015 and never looked back. From house and techno, to trap, breaks, bass, and drum & bass, as long as it gets her moving and feeling something, she loves it. In 2019, she got involved in the local scene of San Francisco and gained experience in social media management and event promotions by throwing events and underground raves. You can always find her playlisting, looking for new artists to support, and reading about the history of dance music.
