Grabbitz dug into his alternative rock influences to create the tracks on his latest album, Let Them Only See Butterflies.
From gaining a stamp of approval from electronic mastermind deadmau5 to finding a home on Monstercat, Grabbitz has really come into his own over the past decade. This multi-faceted artist continues to win over more fans with each passing release and live performance, all while staying true to his creative spirit and exploring new sonic realms. Now, Grabbitz has returned with another ambitious release, Let Them Only See Butterflies, an eight-track album that sees him marry the worlds of electronic and alternative rock.
Lead singles “Hero” and “Let It Bloom” set the tone for the soundscapes that would be present on Let Them Only See Butterflies, which was produced during a three-day retreat in San Diego where Grabbitz spent time focusing solely on his artistic evolution. Those first two tracks might’ve been a taste of what would come, but the album itself is best listened to from start to finish as each song is intertwined with the next as he tells an ambiguous story, allowing listeners to connect in their own way.
The intro track, “Probably Our Last Conversation,” leads the charge as Grabbitz puts his vocal chops on display. Then, it’s off to the races as the booming drums take over on “SURRENDER PEACE!” for a fast-paced alternative rock ride that will have you gripping on for dear life once the bassline kicks in. YULTRON joins in on the fun for “The World Is So Fucked Up,” another distorted gem that sees Grabbitz dive even deeper into the rock music realm.
Later down the road is “Slow Dance,” another standout that offers high-quality synth lines for a touch of nostalgia as the soothing vocals dominate the soundscape. Finally, the closing tune, “Can You Feel It Now?” is a proper end to this unique listening experience from Grabbitz as it swells with energy for a massive release of emotion that will make you feel like you’re in the middle of the crowd at one of his shows.
