Apranik Records’ Intended Consequence features a fresh lineup of Iranian women musicians and producers from various electronic styles.
It was at the beginning of this year when AIDA and Nesa Azadikhah first joined forces to showcase the sounds of women artists in Iran on Women, Life, Freedom as a response to the uprisings in the Middle East country after the killing of Mahsa Zhina Amini. Now, the two artists are continuing their push to bring more visibility to women artists from their home country, with the second compilation to surface on Apranik Records, Intended Consequence.
Intended Consequence is out now across all platforms and features ten tracks from talented Iranian women producers, including Rojin Sharafi, Ava Rasti, AZADI.mp3, and more. Thematic elements of power, resistance, and persistence in the face of the chaos drip throughout the compilation’s soundscapes as artists put their prowess into creating everything from jungle to techno.
While each track stands tall on its own as these artists’ creativity flows, there are some true standouts on Intended Consequence. Nesa Azadikhah’s “Perpetual” is stunning at its core, with its mellow synths and breaks carrying listeners forward, while AIDA’s “Ode to Expectations” offers another ride into the depths of the night with its subterranean beat that will keep your body swaying the entire time.
One of the most unique is abji_hypersun’s “Resist The God Trick,” which leans into organic drums and chants before building into a jungle track that is sure to inject your soul with energy. On the flip side, Ava Rasti’s track “Eight Night” is driven by its pensive piano melody to evoke emotions in listeners as the final seconds of Intended Consequence tick away.
