New York-based singer, songwriter, and producer Mindchatter has gained attention since his 2019 debut for his creative and genre-defying tracks. Combining introspective lyrics with effervescent backsounds, Mindchatter has found a home on ODESZA‘s Foreign Family Collective. His debut EP on the imprint Spiritual Puberty, comes out September 22, and fans get another glimpse into the full release with his latest single “Day Dreams.”

This is the second single off the forthcoming EP which tells of Mindchatter’s journey, growing up and finding personal fulfillment in a world of sensory overload, with too many decisions or options. This theme is something listeners can all relate to as they go through their own coming-of-age and self-identity discoveries.

Simply put, ‘Spiritual Puberty’ is about growing up. I guess becoming an adult is realizing you are NOT gonna hook up with every person, read every book, try every food, master every instrument, learn every language, live in Europe, call everyone you need to call back, right everyone you wronged or even overcome (like, truly overcome) a single one of your fears. It’s about respecting time and taking your place in it.

A bouncing melody opens the track and Mindchatter’s recognizable vocals come into focus. The track is catchy and danceable, allowing for listeners to escape into its bright, atmospheric, warmth. But listen closer and the lyrics sing of being stuck in a fog and come back to reality. He asks for help to be woken up from these day dreams, while the dreamy undertone of the song keeps sweeping him away.

“Day Dreams” is a departure from Mindchatter’s previous releases, “and that’s probably because it came together by accident. As I was mixing the instrumental of another song on the EP, I added the “Day Dreams” topline, and it worked perfectly. Suddenly I had two totally different songs using the same beat and very little time to decide which to release,” he explained. “Luckily I was playing Lightning in a Bottle later that week and I decided to put the new version in my set to test out. It was surreal to play a song I made 48 hours ago, but it made for a special moment in the set. When the chorus hit that first time, I knew it was the one.”
