GU45: Brooklyn sees Danny Tenaglia complete his Global Underground mix trilogy.
The Global Underground label has immortalized some of dance music’s most celebrated DJ sets since it started releasing mix compilations in 1996. Danny Tenaglia has been a fixture of the series for nearly as long, having first appeared in its discography in 1999 with GU10: Athens. In November, he will complete his Global Underground trilogy with his third and final entry: GU45: Brooklyn.
Tenaglia, who recently revealed to the public that he has been diagnosed with cancer, was born and raised in Brooklyn. While each Global Underground mix compilation focuses on a specific city, the music in each set always represents artists worldwide. Consisting of 42 titles in total, the tracklist includes songs by the likes of Basement Jaxx, Monika Kruse, Pig&Dan, Moderat, and Dino Lenny.
“I’m happy to announce that I’ve just completed my third compilation for the iconic Global Underground series,” said Danny Tenaglia in a statement. “First, it was GU10: Athens, then GU17: London, and now we are bringing it to my hometown of Brooklyn giving you GU45. As a native of Williamsburg, Brooklyn, this compilation is not only a celebration of my roots but also a tribute to the dynamic and ever-evolving nightlife that ignited and guided my musical career back in 1975.”
“I’m so excited to present the third and final instalment in Danny Tenaglia’s GU Trilogy with ‘GU45: Brooklyn,” added Global Underground Founder Andy Horsfield. “Danny’s mixes have been a huge part of GU’s DNA for many years, with his seminal Athens and London mixes becoming many people’s favourite DJ mixes of all time. Brooklyn is a stunning addition to that heritage, and I can’t wait to release this album to the world.”
Tenaglia spent the first 25 years of his life in Brooklyn before relocating to Miami in 1985. He returned to New York City — and in tandem with remixes of music by the likes of Madonna, Jamiroquai and The Daou, the two previous Global Underground mix compilations made him a familiar face in dance music communities across the globe.
GU45: Brooklyn is due out in November 2023. Pre-order it on the Global Underground website.
