Tycho’s latest avenue of sound on “Time To Run” features familiar yet new approaches and that will leave listeners pleasantly surprised.
Since the announcement of his self-curated event, Tycho Presents Golden States, ears were eager to know what possible new melodic goodness Tycho would have in store for them. Little did they know that their ears and eyes would be in for an early sneak peek of what would come. Gearing up for Golden States, Tycho provided listeners with a taste of his forthcoming album with his first release, “Time To Run,” along with an autobiographical music video. Many will feel closer to the person behind the music as they take a run in the shoes of one of Tycho’s earlier memories of using music as meditation.
The inspiration behind the “Time To Run” music video, Tycho looked to share a personal experience affixed to his competitive running days. The artist would find comfort in music and often used the rhythms to center himself to help find his pace. Teaming up with filmmaker Patrick Elmore, the artist recreated a deeply personal official music video that represents the feelings that surface when his mind, body, and nature are as connected as when he’s running.
The moment the video begins, fans are instantly placed into the scenery of a throwback cross-country meet. You can tell this is set in a different time as you see what looks like a younger Tycho tying his old-school Pumas in preparation for his run, matched with some fresh groovy tones. Some more newness is present as funkier synth waves and rugged guitar riffs enter the space that continues throughout as nodes of the traditional Tycho sound we all love is drizzled on top with perfection. As he jumps into the water at the end of the nature-filled escape, you can see the happiness course through his veins as the feeling of self-fulfillment washes over his face as he floats atop the comforting waters.
