BOX CAR Revs His Engine with ‘ALGORHYTHM’

Boombox Cartel brings a slew of new sounds with the release of ALGORHYTHM, his debut album under the BOX CAR alias.

Mexican-American DJ and producer Boombox Cartel has been a revered figurehead in the electronic music scene for years. You might be familiar with some of his classics like the hard-hitting “NBD” as well as his softer side seen on “People I Know,” while his collaborations with JID, Nevve, and more have also turned heads along the way.

Flash forward to the present, and Boombox Cartel has unveiled his side project, BOX CAR, along with a new album ALGORYHTHM. This 14-track album sees him dash the bass-fueled soundscapes of yesterday and instead drop in a dose of house and techno-laden grooves suitable for anyone’s palette, guaranteeing an immersive throwback session with plenty of beats for you to shimmy your night away.

ALGORHTYHM is a project that I’ve been working on under BOX CAR for the past year and have loved the entire creative process, which hasn’t always been the case. The concept of the album is music and sounds that feels good versus following a formula, the exact opposite of what an algorithm is. Not necessarily a trend or something that is popping off right now, just something that truly felt good to me when I was making it with no real purpose except to create. Dance music is about progression and I felt that this project was the perfect option to do just that!

The keys are in the ignition, and it’s time to take the ride of your life with BOX CAR.

Feel your “ENERGY SHIFT” as the first track sets the tone. Fall into the dance music void and get a glimpse of what it might feel to be in a warehouse rave in the late 80s. Then, “JELLYFISH JAM” begins to play through your speakers, and your imagination runs free. The image of jellyfish dancing to colorful flashing lights as far as the eye can see comes into focus, and you gleefully bop and bounce along the tops of their jelly-like bodies to the catchy beat. It’s time to feel spicy as “BAYA” becomes the focus with the help of TK Vicious. Your hips won’t stand a chance against the powers of the tambourine present throughout this delectable tune.

The dreamy vocals of “FA LE” uplift your soul with each passing moment of the serenade. Notice your heart flutter to the pitter-patter rhythms present during this track’s runtime. On the opposite side of the spectrum, “BONE CRUSHER” won’t have you wanting to run off into the sunset like the previous song. Rather, you’ll be ready to flex your muscles as the title of the track is repeated and met with an abundance of high hats evoking high energy. Nessly makes his appearance on “TAKING OVER,” and this pair-up creates the perfect rush sure to give anyone who listens the high one feels when immersed in a crowd of bodies while dancing with a sexy, mysterious stranger with fierce passion.

The vibes are still high as we journey to the second half of ALGORHYTHM.

“BIGFOOT” will prepare you to explore the wilderness to find the inspiration behind this synth-filled track that will surely be as easy to obsess over as the legendary hairy creature. “AGAIN & AGAIN” gives you all the trance energy your heart desires. By the end of this song, you’ll be hypnotized and want to play its energetic and continuous sound waves again and again. Providing some light-hearted tempos, “ANY OTHER WAY” provides some much-needed elevation to the clouds. Feel the ascension as the beat builds up, carrying you to greater heights before gently placing you in a bed of emotive lyrics waiting to catch you.

Try not to sway side-to-side as “CUT SCENE (GAMEPLAY)” begins its deliciously repetitive synths and claps that will undoubtedly be in total control of your movements. “CLOCK” will have your heart pulse matching the beat. As each low frequency passes you by, you can’t help but feel a heaviness in your chest that can only be lifted when you fall into its tempting spread of sounds. Many of us have ended a good night with the thought, “THIS BED WON’T STOP SPINNING.” This track encapsulates the feelings of discombobulation to a T with each passing moment of brain-tickling production.

Circling back to some less hyperactive sounds, “TOMACHA” is here to bring your heartbeat back to its normal rhythm. Dance the night away with this easily digestible song and feel the old-school energy coarse through your veins as the percussion irresistibly steals the show. Finishing us off, “SHORT SONG LONG DRIVE” is the perfect track to put on for an evening sunset drive. The colors of orange and light pink rush through your mind as this elegantly sweet song twirls you to the airy light-hearted soundscape. It’s short but sweet, and you’ll be sure to hit repeat because it deserves a second or third listen.

There you have it. ALGORHYTHM has all the elements one could desire. From Trance-filled nostalgic synths to light-hearted airy beats, BOX CAR makes any dance music enthusiast proud. So press play and fall into BOX CAR’s formula-free album and be on the lookout for more tasty tunes to hit your ears from Boombox Cartel’s new side project.
